About 8 years ago I knew I wanted to start some kind of theatre/performing arts company with the goal of making the arts more easily accessible to everyone. I was an undergraduate at university desperately trying to find my place in the world - I was studying psychology whilst also pursing acting and singing side courses. I remember one of our assignments lead me to stumble on some journal papers looking at the impact of music and the arts on the brain. It was awesome and mind-blowing stuff, and I just remember thinking how rewarding it'd be to give kids access to these kind of mind-boosting effects from something as simple as attending a singing or acting class.
Fast forward to 2018 - I completed my studies, got awesome results from my thesis research, was offered an academic researcher position at my university, won an award for outstanding singing teacher, and then I thought, "you know what, I have something to offer". I truly believe that performing arts education from a young age is a stepping stone to greater personal and social skills, as well as a significant contributing factor in cognitive development. So, I founded OB1 Theatre Company Ltd. with two goals in mind - to inspire students to reach their full potential so that they can excel in every aspect of life - not just the performing arts, and to enable access to performing arts education and opportunities, for everyone. All The World's A Stage.
